Darren Aronofsky Raising Millions for AI Film Studio

Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky’s AI studio, Primordial Soup, has filed a notice with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) seeking to raise up to $15 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

The filing indicates that $11 million has already been raised, though the exact allocation of the funds remains undisclosed. However, company job listings suggest that Aronofsky—who serves as executive officer and creative head—is accelerating hiring for key roles, including generative AI artists, social media managers, and a head of studio. The studio head will oversee the development, production, and commercialization of all content added to the company’s emerging slate.

Launched in May 2025 in partnership with Google DeepMind, Primordial Soup marks Aronofsky's formal entry into generative AI filmmaking.

At the time of its launch, the Black Swan director compared generative AI to the pioneering breakthroughs of the Lumière brothers and Thomas Edison: “Today is no different. Now is the moment to explore these new tools and shape them for the future of storytelling.” To date, the studio’s output includes the AI-assisted short film Ancestra and the short-form series On This Day 1776, which uses generative tools to depict historical figures like Thomas Jefferson and King George III.
