The Friday the 13th prequel, Crystal Lake, will pay tribute to Betsy Palmer, the actress who played Pamela Voorhees in the 1980 classic. The news was revealed by Linda Cardellini, who takes on the role of Jason Voorhees’ mother in the new series.
According to Cardellini, the production does not intend to recreate Palmer’s performance, but rather to bring back elements introduced by the actress in the first film to build a younger version of Pamela. Among the tributes will be a sweater worn by the character in the original feature. Pam wore this outfit in the classic, when she was decapitated by a camp counselor.
“You can’t duplicate what Betsy did,” Cardellini said during an NBC Backlot Press Day panel. The actress explained that she intends to bring the essence of Palmer’s Pamela to Jason’s early years, showing the relationship between mother and son before the events of the 1980 film.
