'Clayface' Actor Says Villain's Final Transformation is "Sick"

Anyone wanting to see Clayface's definitive form will have to wait for the movie to hit theaters. Tom Rhys Harries , who plays the villain in the new DC film, revealed that the trailers won't show the character's final transformation. According to the actor, the result is "incredibly sick."

Previews have already shown Matt Hagen undergoing an increasingly grotesque transformation, with his face melting and losing its human form. Even so, Clayface's complete look will be kept secret until the film's premiere.

Harries also said that he used the makeup during filming to surprise family and friends. According to the actor, some people even got used to his partially disfigured face until he appeared on video calls with other people, who ended up being caught off guard.

A classic Batman villain, Clayface has had different versions in the comics. The most famous, immortalized by the "Feat of Clay" episode of Batman: The Animated Series, is the one that will star in the horror film directed by James Watkins.

Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) wrote the screenplay for Clayface, which follows an up-and-coming actor named Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries) whose face is disfigured by a gangster.

As a last resort, he seeks help from a scientist (Naomi Ackie) with shady methods to try and restore his original face. With a chemical formula, Hagen heals the scars, but is transformed into a scientific freak. Rounding out the cast, in roles yet to be revealed, are actors Max Minghella (The Social Network) and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad).

Clayface hits U.S. theaters on October 23.
