Netflix has announced a special release plan for Charlie vs. The Fantastic Chocolate Factory, its big animation bet for next year. The new Netflix Animation Studios film will premiere worldwide in theaters on November 5, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on December 22. Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle the international theatrical distribution.
In addition, the animated film’s cast has added some major names: Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Charithra Chandran (Bridgerton), Samson Kayo (F1: The Movie), Christopher Chung (Slow Horses), Kate Winslet (Titanic) and Helena Bonham Carter (Enola Holmes).
The stars mentioned above join the previously announced Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Charlie Paley and Taika Waititi (Klara and the Sun) as Willy Wonka.
And that’s not all. Netflix also revealed that the world of Wonka will be hitting store shelves. Starting this fall in the Northern Hemisphere, the Ferrero Group will launch a special line of 10 seasonal and limited-edition products, including chocolates, candy, ice cream, and cereal, in the United States and select European markets. Moose Toys will serve as the film’s main toy partner, with a product line set to launch in 2027, close to the animated feature’s premiere.

The story will be set in contemporary London and follows Willy Wonka, who spent years in prison after the chaos caused by the famous Golden Ticket. Upon his release, he returns to the factory determined to start over and try to improve the world around him. However, his plans are threatened by Charlie Paley and his friends, a group of teenagers on the verge of losing their homes. Desperate, they plan to break into the factory to steal a valuable Wonka Bar. What they do not expect is that, once inside the magical place, they will find themselves facing a far more dangerous situation than they ever imagined.
Five years ago, Netflix acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company with the goal of expanding the intellectual property into multiple formats.
According to Deadline, this project is the same one that had previously been in development as a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory series. Jared Stern (The LEGO Batman Movie) and Elaine Bogan (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia) are directing.
