In an interview with EW during San Diego Comic-Con, Letitia Wright spoke about the casting of David Jonsson as T'Challa's son in Black Panther 3. The actress, who plays Shuri in the MCU, celebrated the news and revealed that she already has a personal connection with the actor.

"Personally, the news was really beautiful to hear. Because I have a personal connection with David. A special person, with a kind heart. And seeing the cycle come full circle today... I'm still taking it all in," said Wright. "We're both still texting each other about it."

Shuri met T'Challa's son during the post-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and the character is expected to serve as a mentor to her nephew in the third film. Wright also spoke about Shuri's evolution in Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres in December.

"In Doomsday, we see her growth. We see her fully stepping into the role of Black Panther. A renewed, powerful, and strong woman. With that leadership quality she absorbed from Ramonda and T'Challa," she said.

The actress added: "It's beautiful to see this character's arc, starting in 2018 as a scientist in the lab trying to help her brother, and now rising up to become a source of wisdom for her nephew. I'm going to have a lot of fun, and I'm definitely going to tease him a lot."

Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026, while Black Panther 3 is currently slated for December 15, 2028.
