'Black Clover' Director Explains Improved Animation in Season 2
After five years, Black Clover is back with a different and better second season than the first, new director reveals

Season two of Black Clover will be different and better than the first, especially when it comes to animation quality, according to the new director, Ayataka Tanemura. The person in charge of the new episodes explained that the production had more planning time and a bigger budget, factors that allowed for greater investment in the series’ visuals.
In an interview with Anime Corner, Tanemura said the team was able “to secure a solid schedule as well as the funds to produce this new season. We hope everyone will get to see an even more powerful Black Clover”.
The change comes after the first season faced difficulties because of its weekly release format. With 170 episodes aired between 2017 and 2021, the anime ended up suffering from a fast-paced production schedule, since it had to keep up with the progress of Yūki Tabata’s manga
Now, the second season will follow a different model, with a more organized schedule and fewer episodes produced at once, allowing the team more time to work on each chapter. The anime’s return is scheduled for October 2026, with streaming on Crunchyroll.
