Riot Games has announced that League of Legends Classic , a mode that revives elements from older versions of the MOBA, will be shut down in January 2027 , six months after its release. In a statement, the developer explained that, despite positive reception from some players, most have returned to the traditional versions of the game. "We've seen many players enjoy revisiting the old days with Classic. At this point, however, most have returned to other parts of League," the company stated.

With its conclusion, the current season will be the last for this mode. Riot, however, hasn't ruled out bringing it back in the future, likely as a temporary event with adjustments and new content. The developer also stated that it will continue to share what it learned from the experience, including aspects that worked, what could have been more faithful to older versions, and how the attempt to replicate the past may have limited the experience.

Until the shutdown, the company will continue releasing champions inspired by older versions of the game. Among the upcoming titles are Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim, and Lucian, scheduled for update 26.21, as well as Volibear, Urgot, and Udyr, who will arrive in later updates. Riot also confirmed that it will reimburse players for specific Classic content that will no longer be usable after the mode ends.

Despite the decision, the developer thanked the community for their involvement with the project and highlighted that the mode was the result of the work of several company employees. "We will continue exploring different ways to play League and, as always, we appreciate all the feedback," Riot stated.
