16 Years Later, 'Scott Pilgrim' Creator Announces New Story for the Character
This is the first original comic book since 2010, and it will serve as a prequel to the new game.
After 16 years without any new Scott Pilgrim stories, creator Bryan Lee O'Malley has announced the franchise’s official return to comics. The new comic book, titled Scott Pilgrim EX: Dawn of Metal Scott, hits stores on November 15 and marks the character’s first original adventure since the end of the original series in 2010. The publication will also serve as a prelude to the game Scott Pilgrim EX, expanding the franchise’s universe.
In the story, Scott and Ramona are living through a peaceful stretch after the events of the original series, when a new threat emerges to shake things up: Metal Scott, a mysterious robotic double inspired by classic video game rivals. The comic will have 24 pages, including a brand-new story and extra content, while maintaining the irreverent style and gamer-culture references that turned Scott Pilgrim into a pop culture phenomenon.
Bryan Lee O'Malley revealed that he accepted the invitation to write the new story without realizing how significant it would be for fans: “When I was asked to create a minicomic for Scott Pilgrim EX, I quickly said yes without considering the implications", said the author in a statement, revealing that "returning to Scott's Toronto really did feel like coming home".
