Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City surprised fans by bringing Beth back into the story. The character, played by Emily Kinney, appears in Episode 6, which presents an alternate reality in which the zombie apocalypse never happened.
In this scenario, Beth is alive and reunites with her sister Maggie, who travels to New York after the death of their father, Hershel. The story also shows a different version of Negan, who meets Maggie before any of the events that defined their relationship in the main timeline.
The sequence works as a kind of "what if?", exploring what the lives of Maggie, Beth, and Negan would be like if the world had not been overrun by the undead. Throughout the episode, Maggie and Negan develop an unexpected closeness, while Beth continues her career as a singer.
In the end, however, the series returns to the reality fans know, making it clear that the events involving Beth are part of this alternate reality—and do not mean that the character has been resurrected in the main timeline.
