'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Reboot to Get Hilary-Focused Spin-Off
The character was portrayed in the Peacock series by Coco Jones.
The world of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is about to get even bigger. According to Deadline, Peacock is developing Hilary, a series that will serve as a spin-off of Bel-Air, the reboot of the original show, with a story centered on Hilary Banks, Will’s cousin.
According to the publication, Coco Jones, who played the character in Bel-Air, is expected to return for the new series. Hilary was created by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, Harlem).
In the proposed spin-off, after accepting an unexpected job offer from chef and celebrity Yvonne Durand, Hilary Banks (Jones) impulsively moves to New York, determined to prove her worth beyond her Bel-Air connections — only to discover that success, friendship, and love in the city come at a price she never imagined.
The premise gives Hilary a fresh start and a different path from the one laid out at the end of Bel-Air, in which she returned from Costa Rica to Los Angeles to open her own café. The spin-off also aligns more closely with the original ending of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in which Hilary (played by Karyn Parsons) also moved to New York.
Bel-Air is a series that offers a new take on the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Set in the present day and with a more dramatic tone, the reboot is produced by Will Smith. In the production, young actor Jabari Banks plays the new lead.
The series is available to stream on Peacock.
