'Stranger Things' is Back: Netflix Announces New Series for 2028
The series will be a prequel set in the 1950s.
The news is even bigger than an extra episode: Netflix has surprisingly announced a new live-action series from the Stranger Things universe. Watch above!
Titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, the production premieres in 2028 and was revealed especially this Friday (6), the date on which fans celebrate Stranger Things Day. The occasion marks the fictional anniversary of the disappearance of Will Byers, which started the events of the original series.
Unlike a continuation of the story of Eleven and her friends, the new production will be a prequel set in the 1950s, before the events of the original plot and Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a play that explores Henry Creel's past in Hawkins in 1959.
The Duffer brothers, creators of the franchise, are involved in the project alongside Kate Trefry, screenwriter of the original series and the play, who will be the showrunner. Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, Atonement) will direct the first three episodes. Filming will take place in New Mexico.
