The second season officially saw the return of Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis in the roles of Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne, respectively. Furthermore, Sanada received a promotion: while in the first season he was also a producer, now he will be an executive producer alongside Jarvis. Regarding the plot, the second season will be set ten years after the events of the first season (via Variety).

Filming begins in January 2026 in Vancouver, Canada. Pre-production for the second season began in September 2024, with the writing and production team considering three or four possible directions for the show. Once the direction was defined, the project began, and according to showrunner Justin Marks, the script has been finalized since the end of last year.

Shogun is set in feudal Japan at the beginning of the Edo period (1603) and traces the clash of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious samurai. The story centers on John Blackthorne (Jarvis), a courageous English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai complete the main cast.

The second year will feature the return of: Fumi Nikaido, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamot, Eita Okuno and Youka Kouri.

The second season of Shogun premieres in 2027.
