According to Variety, Prime Video has officially ordered a reboot series of RoboCop. The project will have 8 episodes and has been in development since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022, as part of the studio’s strategy to expand classic franchises into streaming. Now, the production is finally moving forward.

According to the official synopsis, the story follows a tech conglomerate that convinces a city to integrate a high-tech robot into its police force. The machine, however, is given the consciousness of a police officer who died in the line of duty. The series will be led by Peter Ocko, who is writing the script and serving as showrunner. James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett will serve as executive producers for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, while production will be handled by Amazon MGM Studios.

Released in 1987, the RoboCop franchise became one of the biggest classics in science fiction and action. The original film, starring Peter Weller, spawned two sequels, a reboot released in 2014 starring Joel Kinnaman, as well as TV series, animated shows, video games, and comic books over the past few decades.
