Disney+ has greenlit the production of Afterlife With Archie, an adaptation of the comic books created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with a premiere set for Halloween 2027. The writer, who also created the series Riverdale and was behind Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will bring his darkest version of the Archie Comics characters to streaming.
The series adapts the comic of the same name, which turns the town of Riverdale into the setting of a zombie apocalypse. In the story, Archie and his friends must face a supernatural threat while trying to survive the attack of the living dead.
The series will be produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, the same companies involved in Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The cast has not yet been announced.
Originally released in 2013, Afterlife With Archie became known for presenting a darker, more adult version of the classic Archie Comics characters, blending horror, teen drama, and supernatural elements.
