The first episode of Lanterns ended with a major reveal about Hal Jordan’s fate and left a new question hanging in the air. Tom King, co-creator of the HBO series, confirmed that Guy Gardner has the ring that belonged to Hal. Check it out below!
The information was revealed during the official Lanterns podcast. Commenting on the episode’s ending, King explained that Hal is dead, while John Stewart appears without the ring. Then Guy is shown with the artifact. “Guy has the ring. So why does Guy end up with the ring? Where do we go from there? Why does this move the story forward?” the writer asked, keeping the mystery alive.

The reveal is especially intriguing because Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion, had already been introduced in the DCU as a Green Lantern in the film Superman. Now, Lanterns may explain how the character came to possess Hal’s ring and what the relationship between the two heroes will be.
The series is still expected to explore this mystery in the upcoming episodes, since Fillion is part of the Lanterns cast. What remains to be discovered is why Hal’s ring ended up in Guy’s hands and what happened to him before the Green Lantern’s death.
New episodes of Lanterns are released weekly on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max.
