'Harry Potter' HBO Series Could Last Over 10 Years
The first season premieres in December on HBO.

The first season of Harry Potter hasn't even premiered yet, but HBO is already planning a long run for the adaptation. At least that's what Casey Bloys, CEO and head of content for the premium channel, told Deadline.
"We’re trying as hard to bring it back as quickly as possible," Bloys commented regarding the gap between the release of the first and second seasons. "It’s not going to be two years [between seasons], but we’re trying hard to keep it as compressed as possible."
When asked about the 10-year plan for the series, the executive left the fate open. "Who knows? Each book is a huge event. I’m right now thinking about season by season as far as what it all adds up to. But I can tell you, Christmas Day is going to be a great launch day for Harry Potter."

The upcoming HBO Max series is scheduled to premiere at Christmas 2026 with eight episodes in its first season. Filming began last summer, and the production has already confirmed that the story will not be told solely from Harry's point of view.
The confirmed cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore. The series will also bring back History of Magic classes with Professor Binns, played by Richard Durden, and will foreshadow the introduction of Lucius Malfoy, who will be played by Johnny Flynn.
The series premieres this Christmas on HBO Max.
