Disney Confirms a 'Princess and the Frog' TV Special is in Production
Completely new story for a well-loved character.
Walt Disney Animation Studios is officially returning to New Orleans for a new animated special set in the world of The Princess and the Frog.
Speaking with Collider at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, Studio Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush confirmed that the project is currently in active production. The upcoming release will feature a self-contained narrative complete with new original music and returning voice actors from the 2009 animated film.
"It is a special set in the world of The Princess and the Frog. It is a full story with a lot of songs as part of it," Bush stated, clarifying that the release will be a standalone animated story rather than a collection of short films or an ongoing series.
The announcement follows the quiet cancellation of Tiana, a long-form Disney+ animated series originally announced in 2020. Disney shelved the series earlier this year as part of a broader shift away from serialized streaming animation, pivoting instead toward standalone specials and features.
Disney has not yet announced an official title, premiere date, or full cast list for the upcoming special.
