Zack Snyder Says 300 Is the Gayest Film Ever Made

Zack Snyder attended the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premiere of his new film, The Last Photograph, which was poorly received by critics and has been called the worst film of his career.

In an interview with Variety, Snyder defended himself against harsh comments made online that even called him a fascist, and cited the 2006 premiere of 300 at the Berlin Film Festival.

"I'm not a fascist. When we showed 300 at the Berlin Film Festival this exact same thing happened. There was immediate discourse around the movie, and everyone booed and walked out. It was our first time showing the movie and we were like, “What the fuck.” They were saying it was “a disaster,” “the worst movie ever” and a “fascist” movie. Then we had a press conference where they were asking me all these questions, like, “Are you a fascist filmmaker?”

The hallmark question was when one of the guys said, “Are you pro-gay or pro-NRA? Which are you?” And I said, “Look, I’ll be honest: I’m a tiny bit of both.” But obviously I’m pro-gay. I made the gayest movie ever made. 300 is one of the gayest movies ever made. I always go, “Look, there are few movies where people come in straight and come out gay, and 300 is one of them.”

300 is an action epic and a direct adaptation of the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, stylistically inspired by the historical Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) and the 300 Spartan soldiers. The cast includes Gerard Butler (Leonidas), Lena Headey (Queen Gorgo), Rodrigo Santoro (Xerxes), David Wenham (Dilios), and Michael Fassbender.
