Sadie Sink Confirms Jean Grey's MCU Return for 'X-Men', With Filming Expected for 2027

To no one’s surprise, Sadie Sink is only just beginning her journey in the MCU. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress confirmed that she will reprise the role of Jean Grey in the X-Men reboot.

In addition to confirming her involvement in the film, the actress also revealed that shooting will take place in 2027, in an undisclosed window. The information makes sense, since the new X-Men is expected to hit theaters the following year.

X-Men has had a long run in theaters, with films produced by Fox since the early 2000s. An initial trilogy was made, and later the mutant team went through a kind of reboot with an entirely new cast. In 2019, Fox was acquired by Disney, which has since been laying the groundwork for the characters’ return to the big screen under new direction.

Now, the mutants are going a different direction. A few of old faces are returning for one last time for Avengers: Doomsday—such as Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Ian McKellen's Magneto—, Marvel is already looking to pass the torch to a new generation of misfits. 

Aside from Sink, a few other names are also in circulation. Reports indicate that Kit Connor (Heartstopper) and Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) have respectively been cast as Cyclops and Emma Frost. Meanwhile, Inde Navarrette, from the hit horror film Obsession, is also shooting her shot. She recently stated that she wants to play Mystique and confirmed she had talks with Jake Schreier, the reboot's director.

Cooper Hoffman was asked about the possibility of joining the X-Men as Cyclops after his The Long Walk co-star, David Jonsson, was cast as the new Black Panther in Black Panther 3. He, of course, denied: "Oh no, not going to be me, but like, I love the X-Men. And like, not for any reason, It's just not. I don't know where this came from. Shit spreads", he told Entertainment Tonight.

In the meantime, insider Daniel Richtman revealed that the highly anticipated reboot of X-Men is expected to be announced during D23, Disney’s main convention, taking place between August 14 and 16. New details about the film are expected, including the cast reveal.

In the comics, the X-Men are a group of people born with special abilities who face prejudice from society simply for being mutants. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the original lineup included Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast, and Angel, along with Professor X himself. It was only many years later that more popular characters were added, such as Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue, and Storm. It is still unknown which lineup will be used in theaters.
