'Obsession' Breakout Star Inde Navarrette Sets Her Sights on MCU's 'X-Men'

Inde Navarrette, from the hit horror film Obsession, is shooting her shot to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Variety, she stated her desire to play Mystique and confirmed previous talks with Jake Schreier, the reboot's director: “I thought what Jake brought to ‘Thunderbolts’ was what I used to love about Marvel. It was character-driven, and the whole time I just couldn’t stop gushing about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel". Check out the video below.

X-Men has had a long run in theaters, with films produced by Fox since the early 2000s. An initial trilogy was made, and later the mutant team went through a kind of reboot with an entirely new cast. In 2019, Fox was acquired by Disney, which has since been laying the groundwork for the characters’ return to the big screen under new direction.

Now, the mutants are going a different direction. A few of old faces are returning for one last time for Avengers: Doomsday—such as Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Ian McKellen's Magneto—, Marvel is already looking to pass the torch to a new generation of misfits. 

Samara Weaving, from the horror franchise Ready or Not, is the first name to be somewhat officially attached to the mutant group. According to Deadline, she has been cast as Emma Frost for the upcoming X-Men movie that will reboot the mutants' cinematic iteration for the MCU. 

Cooper Hoffman was asked about the possibility of joining the X-Men as Cyclops after his The Long Walk co-star, David Jonsson, was cast as the new Black Panther in Black Panther 3. He, of course, denied: "Oh no, not going to be me, but like, I love the X-Men. And like, not for any reason, It's just not. I don't know where this came from. Shit spreads", he told Entertainment Tonight.

In the meantime, insider Daniel Richtman revealed that the highly anticipated reboot of X-Men is expected to be announced during D23, Disney’s main convention, taking place between August 14 and 16. New details about the film are expected, including the cast reveal.

In the comics, the X-Men are a group of people born with special abilities who face prejudice from society simply for being mutants. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the original lineup included Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast, and Angel, along with Professor X himself. It was only many years later that more popular characters were added, such as Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue, and Storm. It is still unknown which lineup will be used in theaters.
