Rumors surrounding the cast of Man of Tomorrow were quickly shut down by James Gunn. This week, the head of DC Studios responded to a ScreenRant post on Threads that compiled all the supposedly confirmed characters for the sequel, and pointed out that a good portion of the list is still not official.

In sharing the article, the outlet mixed characters already established in the new DCU with names that are still only circulating as rumors for the sequel, such as Supergirl, John Stewart, and Maxima. Gunn, however, pushed back on the post with a direct response: "Maybe half of those have been officially confirmed."

The statement suggests that several names on the list are still just speculation or information not confirmed by DC Studios — but Gunn did not specify which ones.

Everything you need to know about Man of Tomorrow

After grossing more than $610 million and earning a great reception from critics, Superman will get a sequel in July 2027 titled Man of Tomorrow.

Once again directed and written by James Gunn, the film will bring back David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. German actor Lars Eidinger will be the one playing the villain Brainiac.

In addition, the Justice Gang is expected to return (Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho), reprising their roles as the heroes.

What is the story of Man of Tomorrow?

The story will involve Superman and Lex Luthor, forced to work together in a fragile alliance to stop a threat to the planet. Gunn revealed that Brainiac, an artificial intelligence often considered responsible for Krypton's destruction in the comics, will be the film's villain.

We also know that Lex Luthor will finally wear his powerful green armor in Man of Tomorrow. This will be the first time the equipment, used by the villain when he decides to take matters into his own hands, will appear in a live-action film.

Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters on July 9, 2027.
