'Moana' Live-Action Gets Digital and Physical Media Release Dates

The film had a disappointing opening of just $43.1 million in the U.S.

Two months after its release, the live-action Moana already has a date set for its arrival on digital platforms and physical media. The film will be available for purchase or rental starting September 8, with a release planned for services like Prime Video, Apple TV and other digital platforms.

The physical media version will arrive the following month. The film will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 6.

Among the bonus features included in the new editions are a karaoke version of the film and behind-the-scenes materials on the casting process, the creation of Motunui, the choreography, and the costumes. Another special features Lin-Manuel Miranda alongside Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foaʻi discussing the film’s songs and the creation of the brand-new “Along the Way.”

In addition, it has not yet been revealed when Moana (2026) will arrive on Disney+.

The remake’s cast includes Catherine Laga’aia as the protagonist, previously voiced by Auli'i Cravalho; John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala. Dwayne Johnson will reprise the role of Maui in the new version.

The plot of Moana is set in an ancient world in the South Pacific. On her journey in search of a legendary island, the teenager Moana joins forces with her hero, the demigod Maui (Johnson). Along the way, they encounter sea creatures, submerged worlds, and an ancient culture.
