Disney is launching free streaming channels as a new strategy to draw consumers into its ecosystem of platforms. This information was revealed by CEO Josh D'Amaro during an investor meeting, where he explained that the initiative would serve as a gateway to paid services such as Disney+, Hulu, and the company's other platforms.
According to the executive, the idea is to reach a more price-sensitive audience while simultaneously strengthening the company's advertising business.
"We see this as a way to expand our reach to a more price-sensitive customer segment. Furthermore, a free offering could help drive subscriber growth for Disney+," he stated.
D'Amaro concluded by saying that the company has nothing official to announce yet, but emphasized that creating a free platform is "definitely something we are considering."
