Chuck Russell, 'The Mask' Director, Dies at 74

Hollywood director Chuck Russell was found dead at his home last Wednesday (22). He was 74.

According to TMZ, his death happened "unexpectedly", following a medical emergency call regarding an "unconscious man". Local firefighters also responded to an emergency call issued from the area, but the cause of death remains unknown.

Family members are currently flying to San Diego to understand what happened. Russell leaves children Carlyn, RIley and Logan, wife Ania and ex-wife Patti. 

Russell directed cult hits such as The Blob and The Mask and had a steady career followed by his debut with A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. He also has titles such as Eraser, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and The Scorpion King, which marked Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's debut as a leading man and served as the first spin-off of The Mummy franchise.

After a 14-year old industry break, he came back to direct John Travolta in I Am Wrath. He was currently assigned to be working on films White House Demon and Hyperia, which are both in pre-production stages. Hist last released film is the horror remake Witchboard (2024).
