It is still unknown who will play Batman in the new DC Universe (DCU). Unlike the version portrayed by Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves' films — which are part of the Elseworlds label, focused on standalone stories — the shared universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran will feature a completely new Dark Knight. The character will be introduced in The Brave and the Bold, a film centered on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne, the new Robin. However, Gunn has already said that casting will only truly move forward once the script is finished.

Meanwhile, Alan Ritchson, star of the series Reacher, has once again fueled speculation about his possible involvement in the DCU. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor revealed that he speaks with James Gunn often: "I have a lot of respect for James. I'd love to do something with him, and James would love to do something with me. And I hope that we work on something that feels like we're all making this movie that I would be proud of." he said. According to Ritchson, however, he is very selective when choosing new projects, and any work with DC will need to meet his standards.

When asked whether he already has a specific character in mind, the actor simply replied, "Yes." When asked if that character would be Batman, he chose not to confirm it. Instead, he only said that "the future is bright, the horizons are wide, and anything is possible for any of us."
