According to exclusive information from Deadline, Natalia Dyer and Elijah Wood have been cast in the sequel to the supernatural horror film 1408.
They join Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack, who are currently negotiating terms to return to the franchise. The production marks the return of the director of the first film, Mikael Håfström , who also co-wrote the script with Mark Verheiden.
According to sources from the publication, Jackson and Cusack will reprise their original roles, but this time as supporting characters. Dyer will be the protagonist of the new production, while Wood will have a supporting role. Details about their characters are still being kept secret. Filming is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Based on the eponymous short story by Stephen King, the original film follows writer Michael Enslin (Cusack), who checks into room 1408 of a New York hotel to investigate mysterious deaths for his new book, while confronting the enigmatic hotel manager, played by Jackson. The 2007 film was a cult hit, grossing $132 million worldwide on a budget of just $25 million.
Cusack's desire to return is longstanding. In 2025, he told People magazine that this would be the only sequel he would ever do in his career. "Just because... I think today, you know, most movies are bad," the actor joked at the time.
