As a warm-up for the premiere of The Possible Love, Netflix surprisingly announced the release of a short film by the same director, Lee Chang-dong. Titled Heartbeat, the production arrives on the platform this Sunday, November 1st, after receiving praise during its international premiere at the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival.
Everything you need to know about Heartbeat
Produced at the invitation of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation (BCAF), the short film follows Cheol (Kim Geon-u), a boy who knows his mother is suffering from depression. When she stops answering his calls, he becomes desperate and begins a race back home. The camera closely follows the boy's journey, marked by the fear of losing his mother and the weight of assuming responsibilities so early.
The cast also includes Jeon Do-yeon (Secret Sun) as the mother and Sul Kyung-gu (Peppermint Candy), who voices the protagonist's father.
Heartbeat is set in the same universe as The Possible Love , the new film by Lee Chang-dong, which premieres on Netflix on November 6th. Both films address issues such as mental health, work relationships, and the invisible pains of contemporary society.
