'The Legend of Zelda': Who Is Ganondorf, and What’s the Difference Between Him and Ganon?

With the news that Uli Latukefu will play Ganondorf in the live-action The Legend of Zelda, the relationship between Ganondorf and Ganon may confuse those unfamiliar with the franchise’s story, or who started playing the series with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Below, we explain who Ganondorf is and how Ganon fits into this story as well.
Who is Ganondorf? What is his connection to Ganon?
Ganondorf is the main antagonist of most games in the The Legend of Zelda franchise. He is born as one of the Gerudo, being the only man in the kingdom made up exclusively of women. As the only man born in 100 years, he is made King of the Gerudo, and ends up seeking the Triforce to fulfill his wish of conquering the world.
Generally, Ganondorf tries to usurp the throne of the Kingdom of Hyrule and, in the process, ends up kidnapping Princess Zelda. At times, he also seizes the Triforce of Power to carry out his evil ambitions. Using the Triforce of Power causes him to transform into Ganon, a giant boar with astonishing magical and physical powers, who can only be stopped by the Master Sword or the Bow of Light.
In other words, Ganon is still Ganondorf, but a more powerful version of the Gerudo King, one who uses the Triforce of Power to unleash a new form to face Link in battle.
In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Ganondorf’s human form does not appear, and only Ganon’s evil essence—known in the game as Calamity Ganon—is present, a manifestation of all the character’s hatred toward the Kingdom of Hyrule and the royal family as well. In the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, we learn that Ganondorf’s body had been sealed beneath Hyrule Castle, until he eventually regains his power and is reborn.
Thanks to his connection to the Demon King Demise from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Ganondorf cannot be completely destroyed, reincarnating in each generation to oppose Princess Zelda, the reincarnation of the goddess Hylia, and Link, the reincarnation of the hero.
