According to information released by Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise may be on Disney's radar for a new game, but the developer might not be DICE or Electronic Arts. During the Game Mess Mornings program, Grubb stated that there are behind-the-scenes discussions about who should take on the next title.
The name being considered for production is Bungie, the developer of Halo, Destiny, and the recent Marathon. The game hasn't entered development yet, but negotiations are reportedly already underway. The reason for the possible change is said to be a strain in the relationship, as sources indicate that Disney has "a bad taste in its mouth" after so many years of partnership with EA.
This is a direct reflection of the enormous controversy caused by Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2017, when the Star Card and loot box system generated public outrage and regulatory interventions in several countries.
The potential move of the franchise to Bungie comes at a time of great success for Star Wars in gaming, with titles like Star Wars: Zero Company and Star Wars: Galactic Racer , in addition to the upcoming Star Wars Jedi game. Still, the choice is curious, given that Bungie itself faces challenges with the performance of Marathon.
