'Spider-Noir' Canceled by Prime Video After Just One Season
Low audience retention may have been one of the factors behind the cancellation of the series starring Nicolas Cage.
Prime Video has decided not to renew Spider-Noir for a second season. The series, starring Nicolas Cage and based on the Marvel universe, had a single season that, despite being well received by critics and audiences, did not justify its high production cost.
Spider-Noir was the second series ordered under the deal between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television to adapt characters from the Spider-Man universe.
The first project, a spin-off of Spider-Man titled Silk, was scrapped before it even aired. Despite the cancellation, the partnership between the two companies continues, with several projects in development, one of them close to receiving a series order.
The production earned a 92% critics' score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, in addition to 11 Emmy nominations—the highest number for any Prime Video series in 2026.
In its first week, the series debuted in second place on the Nielsen rankings, with 851 million minutes watched, and accumulated 2.6 billion minutes over six weeks. However, the series did not maintain the same performance as other shows on the service, such as Off Campus, Reacher and Crime Partners, and quickly dropped out of the daily Top 10.
The high cost, which included filming both color and black-and-white versions, weighed on the decision.
