Zara Larsson Slams White House Over ICE's 'Midnight Sun' Video

Singer Zara Larsson reacted to the use of her song "Midnight Sun" in a video posted by the White House on TikTok. The recording shows ICE agents handcuffing and deporting people, with the caption "Never ending deportations".

In response, Larsson recorded a video on her own TikTok making an "L" on her forehead – a common symbol to signal losers. She said that what she felt was sadness. "My heart is heavy. I would like to speak to whoever made that video. I would like to help you remember that we two are not so different. And we are not so different from the people in the video either. The biggest difference is that life dealt us different cards."

The singer went on to talk about her own privilege. "I consider myself very lucky. I was born in Sweden, I had an education and opportunities simply placed in front of me. I can travel and do incredible things. That's luck. There are people who don't have that luck and just want a better life for their families. I don't understand how being an undocumented immigrant can be the worst thing in the world. This video is dehumanizing."

Larsson also pointed out that the people in the video are real. "There's a guy in construction clothes there. He's working. These people are ordinary people with jobs, trying to build a better future. It's crazy how everything has become a meme, especially 'Midnight Sun,' which is about connecting with nature, the universe, and people. This only creates division. You guys are losers."

This isn't the first time the White House has used one of her songs. Earlier this year, they posted a video of Donald Trump dancing to "Lush Life," accompanied by phrases supporting the administration. At the time, Larsson responded on her Instagram stories: "I love immigrants, I love criminals, I love trans people, I love abortions, I love queer people, I love promiscuous women, I love contraception, I love welfare, I love socialism, I hate ICE."
