Ryan Gosling Developing a 'The Flintstones' Film Focused on Bamm-Bamm Rubble

After playing Ken in Barbie and being announced as the Ghost Rider of the MCU, Ryan Gosling already has another glimpse of his future lined up. The actor and his Open Invite partner, Jessie Henderson, are developing a live-action The Flintstones movie focused on Bam-Bam Rubble. Unlike the animated series, the film would portray Barney and Betty’s son as an adult.

According to Deadline, the production is still in its early stages, and Gosling and Henderson are looking for a writer for the project.

Bam-Bam Rubble first appeared on TV in the 4th season of the animated series (1963). Adopted by Barney and Betty after being left on their doorstep, the super-strong baby quickly became Pebbles’ counterpart—Fred and Wilma’s daughter—and a key part of Bedrock mythology. 

This would mark The Flintstones’ return to live action after the 1994 and 2000 films. The first was produced by Steven Spielberg and starred John Goodman (Fred), Rick Moranis (Barney), Elizabeth Perkins (Wilma), and Rosie O'Donnell (Betty). The feature was a commercial phenomenon, grossing more than $358 million worldwide against a $45 million budget. Its success led to the prequel The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000), but a cast change and negative reviews resulted in a box office flop, bringing in just $59 million.  

The Bamm-Bamm Rubble project still has no further details, but more news should emerge in the future.
