The Conjuring saga already has a date to continue in theaters, this time with what appears to be a prequel to the story starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson. According to THR, The Conjuring: First Communion, or in a loose translation, The Conjuring: First Communion, will be directed by Rodrigue Huart and written by franchise veterans Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg.

According to the site, the new movie premieres on September 10, 2027, in the U.S. There is still no confirmation of a release date in Brazil, but as usual, the release should follow the North American market.

Recently, an HBO Max series for the franchise was confirmed, signaling that Warner is very likely to invest heavily in the franchise.

Everything about The Conjuring 4

The project marked the farewell of leads Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who starred in the franchise’s previous three films as Ed and Lorraine Warren.

In addition to the duo, Ben Hardy and Mia Tomlinson are also confirmed in the cast. Ed and Lorraine Warren, it is worth noting, are real-life figures who became known for their investigations into paranormal phenomena in the 1960s and 1970s.

Marked as one of the most successful horror sagas of the last decade, The Conjuring greatly strengthened James Wan’s name in the industry, as he directed the first two features and produced the third. Wan, who had already directed Saw, also went on to direct Furious 7, Aquaman, Malignant, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

For the third film, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Michael Chaves, who directed the spin-offs The Curse of La Llorona and The Nun II, took over the director’s chair. Chaves will also direct The Conjuring 4: Last Rites.

With budgets that were modest by industry standards (the first two features cost US$20 million and US$40 million, respectively), the films together grossed nearly US$1 billion at the box office.

The 2013 film made US$319 million at the box office, while the sequel reached US$321 million. The third movie ended up being hurt by the timing, when movie theaters were still recovering from the pandemic, but it still managed US$206 million.

The success led the franchise to spawn several spin-offs, including an Annabelle film trilogy, two The Nun movies, and The Curse of La Llorona.

The Conjuring 4 is now available to stream on HBO Max.
