According to an exclusive report from Deadline, actress Amy Madigan, who won the Oscar for A Hora do Mal, has joined the cast of The Comebacker, Sony’s new film starring Tom Hanks and Callum Turner.
The feature, described as a love letter to baseball, is based on a short story by Dave Eggers and follows a young New York Mets pitcher whose life changes after being struck by a batted ball.
Madigan will play the team owner, while Hanks will portray the pitching coach. Patricia Clarkson will play the coach’s wife. The film is directed by Marielle Heller, who also wrote the screenplay. Filming begins this fall in New York.
Madigan won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger, four decades after her first nomination for Twice in a Lifetime.
Her upcoming projects include the thriller Sponsor (Apple), the reboot of The X-Files (directed by Ryan Coogler) and the limited series All the Sinners Bleed (Amblin/Netflix).
