'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Hits $900 Million at U.S. Box Office

Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed the $900 million mark at the domestic box office this Friday (4), becoming only the second film in history to reach that milestone — only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million). The feature hit the mark in 36 days, beating the 50 days the 2015 film took to reach the same number.

The production starring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Sadie Sink, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, is expected to bring in around $18 million between Friday and Monday (a holiday in the U.S.). With that, the film is closing in on the record for the highest domestic box office of all time, currently held by The Force Awakens.

In addition to Tom Holland returning as the lead, Jacob Batalon are back as Ned and Zendaya returns for the new Spider-Man movie as MJ. New additions include Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), playing the villain Jean Grey.

Another confirmed cast member is Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, marking the hero’s debut in Marvel films. In addition, Mark Ruffalo is in the movie as Hulk.

Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is directing the project. Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who wrote Spider-Man: No Way Home, are also responsible for the upcoming film.
