'Batman: The Brave and the Bold' Might be Directed by James Gunn

According to World of Reel, James Gunn is reportedly considering taking over directing duties on Batman: The Brave and the Bold in place of Andy Muschietti.

Journalist Jordan Ruimy said that the head of DC Studios may be tempted to helm the Batman film after directing the first two Superman movies in the new DCU. "Gunn is apparently tempted to replace Muschietti… with himself," Ruimy wrote.

DC Studios has not yet officially commented on the future of the film. Gunn, who has become increasingly involved in the DC universe, recently denied that the project is on hold because of the Warner Bros. Discovery/Paramount merger.

The Brave and the Bold will focus on Damian Wayne, Bruce's son. The story is inspired by Grant Morrison's Batman run, when Bruce Wayne discovers Wayne's existence before he becomes the new Robin.

This will be a fresh start for the Dark Knight within the new DC Universe, so we won't see Ben Affleck or Michael Keaton returning to the role. Robert Pattinson will continue playing Bruce Wayne in the universe of The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, and its sequel remains in development at Warner Bros. It will take place on a separate timeline from the main universe overseen by James Gunn.

Known as the Dynamic Duo, Batman and Robin are the most popular hero-sidekick pairing in comics. In DC Comics, Bruce Wayne is regularly accompanied by a protégé and possible successor. The best-known version of the Boy Wonder is Dick Grayson, who in the comics eventually becomes Nightwing and has even taken Bruce's place after his death.

In The Brave and the Bold, however, Robin will be Damian Wayne, the fourth boy to take on the role after Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake. As the name suggests, Wayne is Bruce Wayne's son, and his mother is Talia al Ghul, daughter of the villain Ra's Al Ghul, leader of the League of Shadows.
