Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman to Star in Western 'Rode to Ruin'

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman will star in Rode to Ruin, a new Western thriller that will also be directed by Keaton. 

In the story, Keaton will play Henry Tillman, a retired marshal who has spent 40 years searching for the person responsible for his wife’s death. The investigation finally turns up a new lead, which takes him to Joseph Mulberry, an outlaw played by Freeman who is growing old and losing his memory.

The meeting between the two characters will bring a hidden truth to light, putting both men in a situation that could cost them their lives. The screenplay is written by R. Dean McCreary.

Rode to Ruin will also mark Keaton and Freeman’s reunion on screen after nearly four decades. The two previously worked together on Clean and Sober (1988).

In addition to starring in the production, Keaton is returning to the director’s chair after helming Knox Goes Away and The Merry Gentleman. Freeman, meanwhile, already has experience with Westerns, having appeared in Unforgiven.

There is still no information on the release date, the start of filming, or the distribution of Rode to Ruin.
