Michelle Yeoh Would Like to Play Yoko Ono in 'Blade Runner 2099'

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly conducted during San Diego Comic-Con 2026 (SDCC), actress Michelle Yeoh answered which public figure she would like to portray in a biopic.

"Yoko Ono," she said immediately. When asked about her favorite Beatles song, Yeoh laughed: "That’s really hard. I'm blanking out". 

"I know the Beatles! I know the Beatles so well, but right now...," she explained, gesturing to show that no answer was coming to mind. "Yoko is funny," she finally said, to justify her choice.

Meanwhile, Yeoh’s Blade Runner 2099 co-star Hunter Schaefer also shared her pick: "It wouldn’t work, but in a dream world, Björk."

The two actresses star together in the Blade Runner universe series, which arrives on Prime Video later this year.

Blade Runner 2099 returns to the cyberpunk world immortalized by the 1982 classic Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, and continued by Denis Villeneuve and Ryan Gosling in the sequel, Blade Runner 2049, released in 2017 with Ford’s return.

To secure a stable future for her brother, she takes on one last identity and is forced to partner with Olwen (Michelle Yeoh), a Blade Runner facing the end of her life. The two are drawn into an expanding conspiracy that poses an existential threat to a city struggling to be reborn."

Shōgun director Jonathan van Tulleken will direct and produce the first two episodes as an executive producer. 

Echoing his role on the 1982 film, the series will have Ridley Scott as an executive producer. The cast already includes Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Maurizio Lombardi (Ripley), Johnny Harris (Jawbone), Amy Lennox (Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines), Sheila Atim (The Woman King) and Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon), Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Lewis Gribben (Limbo), Katelyn Rose Downey (The Nun II) and Daniel Rigby (Flowers).
