Warner Bros. has made several changes to its release schedule for the next two years. The Batman: Part II, directed by Matt Reeves, originally set for October 1, 2027, will now be released on February 18, 2028.

Meanwhile, The Great Beyond, the new film from J.J. Abrams, has taken over The Batman: Part II former release date.

The schedule changes come amid Warner Bros.' turbulent acquisition process by Paramount, which remains stalled due to antitrust actions filed by the attorneys general of California, New York, and ten other states. The initial expectation was that the merger would be completed by the second half of 2026, but the process remains unresolved.

The new release date coincides with the Presidents' Day long weekend, a period that has already seen the release of hit films such as Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Captain America: Brave New World. In addition, the start of filming for The Batman: Part II has been delayed by five months, and the new schedule will give Matt Reeves more time to complete post-production. The film will also still receive an IMAX theatrical release.

The Batman: Part II will follow up on the 2022 hit, which reinvented the hero with a darker approach, a noir atmosphere, and a stronger focus on his detective side. The film arrives at an important moment for DC Studios, which is looking for a new major hit after the disappointing box office failure of Supergirl.

Everything about The Batman: Part II with Robert Pattinson

While the DCU will have its own Batman through the film The Brave and the Bold, which will adapt stories of Bruce Wayne with Damian Wayne, his son, as Robin, Matt Reeves continues developing his standalone Dark Knight saga, which is part of what James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios, has called the Elseworlds label. This label is given to stories that are not part of the universe launched by the latest Superman film.

The first Batman starring Robert Pattinson hit theaters in 2022 and grossed nearly $772 million.

Dubbed the Batman Epic Crime Saga, this storyline casts Robert Pattinson as a young Bruce Wayne in his early years as the Dark Knight. Aside from Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz plays Catwoman, Colin Farrell is the Penguin, Paul Dano is Riddler, and John Turturro is Carmine Falcone. Jeffrey Wright is the new Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis plays Alfred.

For the sequel, Pattinson returns alongside Farrell, Wright, and Serkis. New additions to the cast include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch.
