Alfonso Cuarón already has a new project in sight after almost eight years without directing a feature film. During a masterclass at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea this Thursday (8), the Mexican director revealed that he is writing a horror story. “I am writing a horror story, carefully and slowly. It’s very interesting,” he said.
The idea isn't exactly new. It's worth remembering that in 2024, during the Locarno Film Festival, Cuarón had already expressed his desire to make a film in this genre and mentioned that he had been exploring this possibility. At the time, he cited Rosemary's Baby and The Tenant, both directed by Roman Polanski, as inspirations.
Cuarón's last feature film was Roma , released in 2018 by Netflix and winner of three Oscars, including Best Director and Best International Feature Film. Since then, he directed the Apple TV miniseries Disclaimer, released in 2024, but has not yet returned to theaters with a new film.
