Why Robin Is One of the Highlights of 'One Piece' Elbaph Arc
The smartest member of the crew also had one of the most moving journeys in the series.
“I want to live!” Out of all the characters in One Piece, Robin is the one whose past has been revisited the most times. From her introduction to the Ohara flashback and now again in the Elbaph arc. She is one of the biggest highlights on the island of giants and, for a personal reason, she dominated the beginning of the adventure in that land. In this article, we’ll look back at her journey to get there.
A child prodigy, Robin took an archaeology exam at just eight years old. She grew up in Ohara, an island known for its scientists and archaeologists who devote their lives to uncovering history. However, there was a limit—they were not allowed to research the Void Century, which was the young girl’s dream. Frustrated to know that her career would always be censored, Robin ran to the beach to cry, where she found the giant Jaguar D. Saul unconscious. The days passed as Saul built his raft, and a friendship grew between them.
Nico Robin
Birth: February 6.
Age at the beginning of the anime: 28 years old.
Height: 1.88 m.
Highlights: long black hair.
Occupation: Archaeologist of the Straw Hat crew
Initial bounty: 79 million berries.
Current bounty: 930 million berries.
Then came the worst day of the character’s life. Even against the rules, Ohara’s researchers were studying the Poneglyphs, and so the World Government decided to wipe out everyone on the island with a Buster Call. Saul, who was secretly a Marine vice admiral, helped Robin escape the attack, but he was not as lucky. During her escape, she was intercepted by the then-Admiral Kuzan, but he turned a blind eye and let her go.
After the attack, Robin joined several organizations, including pirate crews and others of different kinds, but she was always betrayed. Then, as an adult, she joined Baroque Works, led by Crocodile. The villain of Alabasta was interested in Robin’s unique ability to read the Poneglyphs and, in return, she secured his protection and anonymity behind the codename Miss All Sunday. But all of that changed when she met Luffy’s crew and joined them.
From Alabasta to Elbaph, the character has had an intense journey, full of challenges and lessons. There, she has one of the most anticipated reunions in the series with the giant Saul, who now teaches the island’s giant children. This moment, one of the most important in the anime, was masterfully recreated by Toei Animation and was considered by fans to be one of the anime’s best episodes.
Nami and all the other One Piece characters will be featured on the CCXP26 Epic Pass badge.
